During a romantic helicopter ride over beautiful Grand Cayman, Faramarz Romer asked Sarah Sullivan to marry him hovering above the site of their first meeting. So it was only fitting that their wedding celebration also take place among the crystal waters and swaying palm trees of this serene paradise. Wanting to celebrate the exquisite natural surroundings, Pedro St. James was the setting of choice for their ceremony and reception. Pedro St. James is the perfect dramatic and historic setting for a wedding. Set high upon a bluff featuring a 3-story "Great House" (the oldest known existing stone structure in the Cayman Islands) it provides the perfect backdrop, manicured green lawns and landscaped gardens all with spectacular views of the sea below and the crashing waves.
Planning their event was a collaborative endeavor. Partnering with the creative team of Celebrations Ltd., Sarah and Faramarz set out with a certain look in mind to blend: "a mix of a contemporary, clean feel with global fusions, ranging from our guests from afar, our choice in food & wines to the dual faith ceremony." With the deep blue Caribbean Sea in the background, Sarah and Faramarz stood beneath a bamboo structure while gauzy white linen blew in the gentle breeze. Sarah describes the florals as "orchids, orchids everywhere!" An open air white tent on the lawn served as the location for the reception catered by Mis En Place catering. Their delicious chocolate rum wedding cake was smothered in coconut flakes and wrapped in pink ribbon with cascading lime green orchids to tie it all together and created by local ‘cake diva’ Miss Anne of Celebrations.
"We had considerable input and arranged items such as the lanterns, scroll programs and sparklers tied with coordinating ribbon and of course offered fans and parasols for our guests to beat the heat. We were very specific with our ideas and found that each of the vendors were most accommodating and flexible," recalls Sarah.
Their Guests enjoyed spacious beach front accommodations at LaCovia Condominiums on Seven Mile Beach. Bringing (130) family and friends together from as far away as Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Canada, Sarah and Faramarz provided an itinerary chock full of Cayman fun: beach days of snorkeling and parasailing; a catamaran sunset sail with Red Sail Sports; a trip to Stingray City with Soto’s Cruises; and a guided walk through the oldest dry growth forest of The Mastic Trail on the east end of the island.
Was it all Sarah and Faramarz had dreamed of? "Let’s just say the next day we wanted to do it all again!"
